The relative density is 4.50(15 ℃), the melting point is 1580 ℃, has a high refractive index (1.63~1.65), is almost insoluble in water, ethanol and acid, soluble in hot sulfuric acid. It is easy to make mixed crystal with potassium permanganate, calcium carbonate or metal nitrate. It can be reduced to barium sulfide with carbon at high temperature. It is an important basic chemical raw materials, the main purpose: used as paint, ink, plastics, advertising pigments, cosmetics, battery raw materials or fillers, rubber products both as fillers, and play a reinforcing role, polyethylene chloride resin as filler and weighting agent, printing paper and copper board paper surface coating agent, sizing agent for textile industry.
